Inspiriting Life

About Dr. Lucy Xiao

Lucy (玄道) is the founder of Inspiriting Life and a lifelong student of the Way.
She has practiced Zen and healing arts for over twenty years, during which she attended numerous retreats and studied with masters in both China and the US, including Ryushin Paul Haller Roshi, Sojun Mel Weitsman Roshi, Ven. Hongjue and Dr. Wang Juyi.
She was ordained as a Zen priest in 2010 and served as head monk at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center in 2014. She has been a practice leader and lecturer at San Francisco Zen Center and taught meditation for various organizations.
She has a Doctoral degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) and runs a private practice of acupuncture and holistic health in San Francisco.
She grew up in Guangzhou (Canton), a port city on the Pearl River in Southern China, and began to study eastern spiritual teachings at a young age. Although she has lived in the US for many years, she is deeply connected to her Chinese heritage and finds delight in sharing the teachings of her ancestors.
If you study with her and wish to follow the Chinese custom, you may call her "Laoshi" which is a common way to address a teacher.
In midlife I came to cherish the Way,
and at old age I found a home near Zhongnan.
I go to the mountain alone anytime the urge strikes,
and delight in the marvels of things.
Walking along the stream till it ends, I sit and watch the clouds rise.
If by chance I meet an old woodsman,
we talk and laugh, forgetting to go home.

中歲頗好道,晚家南山陲。
興來每獨往,勝事空自知。
行到水窮處,坐看雲起時。
偶然值林叟,談笑無還期。
